The Best Jean for Older Women
Recently, my mother, who is fabulous 50+ midwesterner, asked me what are the best jeans for women over 40. It appears that most jean companies think that after age 40 , a woman’s waist shrinks 10 inches, starting slightly below their armpits. The only other jean options for more mature fashionistas tend to be crack exposing low rise jeans. So what’s a mature fashionista to do? Here’s some alternatives:
Seven7 at Lane Bryant. More stylish fit and a wider selection of washes than most plus size jeans. The jury is still out on how well they wash.
Levis 550 Stretch Boot Cut Jeans at Sears. Nice fitting jeans, especially for those who have a higher rise. As with most Levis, they age very well.
Gap. Although the in store fit is for a youngin’, the relax fit boot cut jeans and the modern fit trousers found online work well for any age.
Old Navy (dark wash with spandex content of at least 3%). The perfect cheap jeans for those who don’t wear jeans on a regular basis.
Abby Z at Nordstrom. Designer extended sized jeans from a plus size designer. These jeans don’t come cheap ($100+). If you’re not a big jean wearer, stick with a pair from Old Navy.
Apple Bottom by Nelly at Macy’s. These jeans are the perfect fit for those with curvier figures. However, I couldn’t imagine my mom walking around with apple cut outs on her bottom.
